3 Dead After Plane Flying Home From Cheerleading Competition Crashes Into Homes

At least 4 of the 5 aboard the small aircraft died while en route home from a cheerleading competition.

A small airplane crashed into two California homes on Monday, sending up a wall of flames and leaving at least four passengers dead.

Two adults and three teenagers were on the plane when it took off from a Riverside airport before 5 p.m. following a cheerleading competition that was being held at Disneyland.

One of the teenagers was thrown from the plane on impact and sustained only minor injuries. According to reports, the victim crawled from the wreckage and burning homes to get help.

While she was reportedly able to recount what had happened to officials, her fellow passengers weren't so lucky.

Three bodies were pulled from the plane. A fourth victim was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, reportedly also after being ejected from the plane.

According to CBS Los Angeles, the critically injured victim sustained burns and underwent surgery.

All residents from the destroyed homes have been accounted for.

Surrounding houses sustained minor damages, officials said. Some 40 area homes were evacuated, however, after the plane clipped power lines as it went down.

The plane was a Cessna 310, Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor told CBSLA. Officials from the National Transportation Safety Board were on scene to begin to seek the cause of the crash.
