Student Resource Officer Battles Stage Fright to Show Off His Moves With Dance Team

He practiced for the dance for a week.

A school resource officer in Montana busted out his moves alongside the school's dance team during a recent basketball game.

Mitch Hillier, 52, said that although he gets stage fright, he thought his dance would be a good way to connect with the students.

"The coach of the dance team at the beginning of the school year approached me and said, 'Hey, why don’t you dance with us this year?' as a kind of a joke," Hillier told InsideEdition.com. "I was [initially] very reluctant because I'm petrified of crowds and attention."

Hillier said he practiced for a week before his big debut.

In the viral video posted to Facebook by Mitch's wife, Becky, Hillier takes center stage as he and the team danced to Lil Mama’s “Lip Gloss” and Lil Jon’s "Snap Yo Fingers."

The surprise dance had the entire auditorium cheering.

"The girls on the dance team knew I was going to do it but the students and the fans up in the stands had no idea,” Hillier said.

"There was a lot of bewilderment when I walked out, but then the kids in the stands started hollering and screaming and it made everything worthwhile."

Hillier said he’s glad people got to see police officers in a different light through the video.

“It’s just been kind of amazing and I’m glad because it lets people see the lighter side of police officers," Hillier said.
