Playing LAX Officer Hailed Hero After Saving Man Who Attempted Suicide

A Los Angeles International Airport Security Officer is being hailed a hero after he saved a man attempting suicide in one of the airport’s terminals.

Police said the 25-year-old man tried to throw his leg over a high pedestrian bridge railing with the intent of falling 60 feet to ground below but Officer John Solis was in the right place at the right time.

Solis, 40, quickly grabbed the distraught man, pulled him from the railing, and away from the edge, police said.

The man laid on the ground and refused to speak while Solis tried to console him, police said. He then leapt to his feet and tried to jump over the railing a second time before Solis wrestled him back to the ground.

The man was then transferred to a hospital, police said.

“Security Officer Solis, like our other employees, is constantly prepared for situations involving people who are distraught,” said Chief of Airport Police David Maggard. “I am proud of him, and all of my officer’s for their ability to balance compassion and respect as part of their response.”
