Donald Trump has jumped to the defense of embattled Fox News host Bill O’Reilly, calling the pundit a "good person."

"I think he’s a person I know well — he is a good person," Trump told The New York Times.

The interview comes amid reports that O’Reilly and Fox News have paid out $13 million to settle claims of "sexual harassment or other inappropriate behavior" over the years.

Bill O’Reilly has denied the allegations.

In an oval office interview, Trump, who has repeatedly called The Times a "failing" newspaper in Twitter rants, went on: "Personally, I think he shouldn’t have settled. Because you should have taken it all the way; I don’t think Bill did anything wrong."

So far, at least 22 companies have pulled their ads from O'Reilly's top-rated show.

Trump and the Fox News host are old friends. The president sat down with him for a one-on-one interview on Super Bowl Sunday back in February.

The president himself has been accused of inappropriate conduct — accusations he has vehemently denied.

In O'Reilly’s case, the accusers included three former on-air personalities who once worked for Fox News, as well as Los Angeles-based therapist Dr. Wendy Walsh, who did not file a lawsuit, used to appear on his show and spoke out earlier in the week, claiming he has exhibited inappropriate behavior in the past.
