A 3-year-old Nebraska boy died after a car's power window closed on his neck, according to an official.

Everton Isay Romero Romero was pronounced dead at an Omaha hospital Friday, nearly a week after he became stuck in rear window of a vehicle, Colfax County Attorney Denise Kracl told The Associated Press.

The boy's mother had lowered the window, but it was not clear how it was activated while the car was parked outside a store, Kracl said.

Authorities said they were unable to determine how long the child was trapped by the window. He never regained consciousness after the incident, Kracl said.

There was no autopsy performed because there was no evidence of a crime, Kracl said. No one has been charged in connection with the boy's death and his mother "acted appropriately the entire time," Kracl said.

His funeral was held Sunday.
