Cops in Alabama say 25-year-old Lorenzo McCullough locked the youngsters in a trash area at an apartment complex.

Cops in Alabama have arrested a man they say locked two children with the trash at an apartment building.

The two children were the subjects of a welfare check early Sunday and were discovered covered in ants in a trash bin.

Police were also at the building in search of a man, identified as 25-year-old Lorenzo McCullough, "who was suicidal and was threatening harm to the two children ages 2 and 4," according to a statement from Dothan police.

Investigators say they located McCullough, but he fled when they attempted to speak with him. "McCullough ran into the back door of another apartment and was found hiding in a closet," cops said.

At that point, the children’s whereabouts were unknown. Authorities canvassed the area looking for them with the help of a police K-9 and a bloodhound.
