Vet Charged With Shooting Her Service Dog Found Dead in Apparent Suicide: Report

Police are investigating the death of Marinna Rollins, 23, whose body was discovered in her apartment by friends early Sunday morning.

A North Carolina Army veteran accused of fatally shooting a service dog meant to provide emotional support for her post-traumatic stress disorder was found dead of an apparent suicide over the weekend, authorities said.

Police are investigating the death of Marinna Rollins, 23, whose body was discovered in her apartment by friends early Sunday morning, The Fayetteville Observer reported.

Rollins and her active-duty boyfriend, 25-year-old Jarren Heng, were charged last month with cruelty to animals in the death of her dog, after the pair allegedly tied it to a tree and filmed each other shoot it five times with a rifles, officials said.

The dog had been adopted and named Huey by Rollins’ estranged husband, who allowed her to keep the pit bull mix while he served in South Korea, according to the The Observer.

Rollins renamed the dog Camboui and registered it as an emotional service animal, meant to help her with PTSD stemming from a traumatic incident that occurred while she served in South Korea, family and friends told the paper.

In the video of the dog’s killing, Heng and Rollins could allegedly be heard laughing as they shot the animal multiple times, Cumberland County District Attorney Clark Reaves said.

The video was found on Rollins’ Facebook page, authorities said.

Rollins, who medically retired in January from the Army because of her PTSD and other mental health issues, was out on $25,000 bail when she was found dead.

Heng was also out on bail and is due in court on May 16.
