After Trump Tweets About Terror Attack, London Mayor Wants President's Visit Canceled

"There are many things about which Donald Trump is wrong," Sadiq Khan said.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has asked British government officials to cancel President Trump’s planned visit to the city after the American leader blasted him in a tweetstorm following Saturday’s terror attack in the city.

“I don’t think we should roll out the red carpet to the president of the USA in the circumstances where his policies go against everything we stand for,” Khan told Britain’s Channel 4 News Monday.

“When you have a special relationship, it is no different from when you have got a close mate," he added. "You stand with them in times of adversity but you call them out when they are wrong. There are many things about which Donald Trump is wrong.”

Trump took to Twitter early Sunday morning to criticize Khan after the mayor stated there was “no reason to be alarmed” after the attack in an attempt to calm residents of the city.

Pathetic excuse by London Mayor Sadiq Khan who had to think fast on his "no reason to be alarmed" statement. MSM is working hard to sell it!

Seven people died and at least 48 were injured after a van drove into pedestrians on London Bridge and several suspects went on a stabbing rampage in nearby Borough Market on Saturday night.

Khan’s remarks, however, were reportedly addressing the increased police presence that residents should expect in the coming days.

"Londoners will see an increased police presence today and over the course of the next few days. There's no reason to be alarmed," Khan said in a television interview.

Hours earlier, Khan had taken to Facebook to condemn the “sickening attack.”

“There is no justification whatsoever for such barbaric acts,” Khan wrote.

On June 4, the U.S. Embassy in London praised Mayor Khan’s actions on Twitter.

“I commend the strong leadership of the mayor of London as he leads the city forward after this heinous attack,” ambassador Lewis Lukins wrote in the tweet.

Trump is slated to visit Britain in early October.

Following Khan’s comments, former London mayor and current U.K. Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said that there is no need to can Trump’s trip to Britain following his row with the mayor.

“The invitation has been issued and accepted and I see no reason to rescind that,” Johnson told BBC Radio 4 Tuesday.

He added that Khan is “entirely right” to speak as he did toward Trump.
