A Kentucky woman has been arrested after allegedly abandoning her child with special needs in a hotel conference room.
Paloma Smith, 30, was arrested Sunday and charged with endangering the welfare of a minor, endangering an incompetent person and criminal trespassing, according to reports.
According to an arrest report, a housekeeper at the Galt House hotel found the shaken-up 9-year-old girl at 3:15 a.m. on Sunday.
Police said the child, who was crying when she was found, had special needs.
Smith allegedly showed up after 20 minutes and tried to take the child with her. Cops said she became aggressive when police said the child needed to be medically evaluated.
Smith reportedly wasn't staying at the hotel and didn’t have a reason to be there.
The hotel released a statement Monday about the incident, according to WLKY.
"We are grateful for and proud of our housekeeping staff for their quick action and compassion in the interest of this young child’s safety and well-being," general manager Nick Brinery said.
