The chase lasted for hours and ended on the banks of the Missouri River.
Police outside St. Louis were taken on a wild chase that began with a bank robbery and ended on the banks of the Missouri River.
St. Peters Police say they were alerted to a bank robbery Monday morning when a man wearing a fake beard and armed with a semi-automatic handgun held up employees at the Gateway Metro Federal Credit Union.

The suspect got away, according to St. Peters PD, but not before his vehicle was identified. That information helped lead authorities to the home of the susect, a 44-year-old white male from Wentzville, Missouri.
While attempting to take the man into custody, cops say they spotted him getting into his maroon Pontiac G6 and, when they attempted to stop him, he fled the area.
Officers were led on a pursuit that came to a halt on the Blanchette Bridge over the Missouri River where cops say the driver stopped his vehicle, got out and leaped into the water below.
The suspect managed to survive the 66 foot drop and began floating north, St. Peters PD said in a statement.
The St. Charles City Fire Department then immediately deployed three rescue boats with police officers from various agencies. The suspect claimed he had a gun, though he never produced it, according to the statement.
After building rapport with an officer on the rescue boat, cops say the suspect agreed to surrender after approximately one hour in the water.

Once he was pulled from the water, no weapon was located and he was safely taken into custody.
Charges will be sent to the St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney's Office and once warrants are issued, we will be releasing the suspect's name.
