Couple Has a Baby and Gets Married on the Same Day

Playing Bride Delivers Baby Hours Before Wedding: 'She's a Little Diva'

A Michigan couple was looking to get hitched before their daughter's arrival, but the baby had other plans.

Jael Reinhold and John Pulcipher, of Traverse City, had set their wedding date for July 29 in Charlevoix.

The future Mrs. was seven-and-a-half months pregnant, and the couple was eager to get married before the baby arrived.

But their child didn't want to miss the ceremony, and decided to come early.

When Jael woke up for her big day at 7 a.m., she realized she was in labor.

“My initial reaction was, ‘Oh my gosh! What are we going to do? Everyone’s still coming,’” Jael told InsideEdition.com. “We just needed to come up with a new game plan.”

John told InsideEdition.com that family members were coming from seven different states for the occasion.

Since the couple was unable to leave Munson Medical Center for their ceremony, John took the initiative to quickly plan a new wedding at the hospital.

At 12:42 p.m., their daughter, Briar Dorothy, was born — six weeks early.

When guests started coming to the hospital three hours later, John told them he had a plan.

“I told the guests that were arriving, ‘Wedding's off, but we have a new surprise for you, so stay tuned,”’ he said.

John told the guests to return to the hospital at 5 p.m.

Meanwhile, Jael’s bridesmaids went to a local thrift store and found her a new dress she could wear to the wedding, which was being planned in the basement of the hospital.

A little over 70 guests attended the hospital wedding after a pre-wedding reception at a bar next door.

"We had a pastor already lined up and it was actually one of our friends’ parents," John said. "We had approached him shortly after we found out we were expecting and he was thrilled to help bless our baby into this world and our marriage. Coincidentally enough, he’s also the hospital Chaplin."

Within five hours, the couple had managed to have a baby and coordinate their nuptials.

“That day, I was so hyper-focused on trying to get her through labor and helping her out," John said. "The whole day was a little bit surreal."

When it was time for the wedding, baby Briar was wheeled out in a mobile incubator and Jael was pushed down the aisle in a wheelchair alongside her father.

“It was really neat to have it all at once,” John said. “It was a blessing.”
