Officials said they are not sure how long the alligator was in the pool.

Animal control was called and workers removed the gator from the pool before taking it to an undisclosed site, according to reports.

Authorities reportedly discovered the alligator after raiding the hotel on an unrelated matter in the morning, according to The Press of Atlantic City. It's not clear what had prompted the police presence.

The Atlantic County Prosecutor did not respond to a call for comment. A phone number listed for the motel is now disconnected.
