Bannon submitted his resignation to Trump on Aug. 7, but an official announcement on the dismissal slated for earlier this week was put off after the violence in Charlottesville, Va., The New York Times reported Friday.
Bannon, a polarizing figure in the Trump White House, has been at odds with the commander in chief in the last several weeks, with multiple reports suggesting his ouster was imminent.
Earlier this week, Bannon told The American Prospect that he disagreed with Trump's now-infamous "fire and fury" remark against North Korea.
Bannon's departure follows the ouster of numerous other top officials over Trump's first seven months in office, including Sean Spicer, Reince Priebus, Anthony Scaramucci and James Comey.
It's the end of another tumultuous week for the president, who has come under criticism from both sides of the political aisle after blaming neo-Nazis and counter-protesters for the Charlottesville chaos.
