Rupert Murdoch Attacked with Pie During Parliament Hearing

Rupert Murdoch's wife leapt into action when a man threw a shaving cream pie in the media mogul's face at a Parliament hearing in London today. INSIDE EDITION has the details.

It was a shocking moment seen around the world as media mogul Rupert Murdoch was attacked on live TV. And who leapt to his defense? It was Murdoch's wife, Wendi, wearing a pink jacket.

A man in a plaid shirt tried to hit Murdoch in the face with a shaving cream pie. Wendi jumped from her seat and walloped him.

Police pounced on the attacker but it was Wendi who took him down, and now she's being hailed for standing by her man.

The knucklehead was identified as Jonnie Marbles. He calls himself a comedian, and signaled his attack a few minutes before by writing on Twitter: "It is a far better thing that I do now than I have ever done before splat."

Murdoch and his son James were testifying in London about the phone hacking scandal that's rocked their global media empire. It was being carried live on all the U.S. cable news networks including Fox, which Murdoch owns.

When the hearing resumed the room was cleared of spectators. Murdoch was back, too but his jacket was gone, smeared with shaving cream. Wendi Murdoch sat directly behind her husband, cool as a cucumber.

Max Robbins of the Paley Center told INSIDE EDITION, "Rupert Murdoch's wife, Wendi, is an extremely bright woman. He depends on her counsel and she's a force in her own right."

The gorgeous Chinese-born Wendi is 38 years younger than her 80-year-old husband. They live in New York and have two young children.

Rupert Murdoch called his testimony at today's hearing "the most humble day" of his career. But it was his wife's quick action that had the whole world watching.
