INSIDE EDITION sat down with a woman who said a man she met on Match.com brutally attacked her with a knife, beat her and left her for dead.
Mary Kay Beckman spoke to INSIDE EDITION about the day she was nearly killed by a crazed attacker in the garage of her Las Vegas home.
Beckman said, "I know he stabbed me 10 times and when the knife broke he started stomping on my head… He said he knew that I was dead because I had stopped making the gurgling sounds."
When she woke up in the hospital days after her brutal 2011 beating, she couldn't talk. She asked for a pencil.
Beckman said, "They said that I wrote down, ‘What happened to me? Who did this to me?’"
Police immediately thought it had to have been a crime of passion because of the sheer ferocity and brutality of the beating. The first thing they wanted to know was, who had she been dating?
53-year-old Wade Ridley was the man Beckman was recently seeing. The two met on Match.com.
Beckman said, "My friends were like why don't you go on Match.com, you find true love there."
After just a few days of dating, Mary Kay introduced Ridley to her friends.
Beckman said, "Everyone said he seems so nice, where did you meet this guy tell us more."
But she sensed something wasn't right and broke it off after just a few dates.
She went on with her busy life, selling real estate in Las Vegas. Then came the savage assault and that's when police came to her hospital room and told her the shocking news.
Beckman said, "They told me that it was Wade Ridley and asked do you remember him? I said that's the guy I met on Match.com. I said how did you find him? They said he killed another woman in Phoenix and he confessed to everything he did to you.”
After leaving her for dead, he went and killed another woman he met on Match.com: 62-year-old Anne Simenson of Phoenix.
Beckman was stunned. She assumed meeting people on the site was safe.
She said, "There is nothing big and bold on the web site that says you might be meeting up with a predator that may be lying to you."
Beckman is bringing a lawsuit and her lawyer, Marc Saggese, says the dating site should be aware of the risks people take using it.
He said, "Match knows this and does nothing because Match is a mega corporation with a half billion net profit per year. They are powerful and don't care."
Match.com issued a statement saying, “The many millions of people who have found love on match dot com and other online dating sites know how fulfilling it is. And while that doesn't make what happened in this case any less awful, this is about a sick twisted individual with no prior criminal record, not an entire community of men and women looking to meet each other.” Match.com also says there are safety tips posted on their website.
Beckman’s attacker was sentenced to 70 years behind bars for the murder of Anne Simenson.
Then came the next shock, Wade Ridley killed himself in custody.
Beckman said, "I was shocked when I was delivered the news that he had taken his own life in prison. I just started crying and asked, what does this mean, he's dead?"
Beckman now realizes that she's free of the man who made "her search for love" a nightmare.
