George Huguely's Mother Breaks Her Silence

The mother of the young man accused of murdering the UVA lacrosse player is breaking her silence. She says she is both devastated and confused by everything that's happened. INSIDE EDITION has the latest.

The mother of the 22 -year-old lacrosse player charged with the brutal murder of his girlfriend, Yeardley Love, is breaking her silence.

George Huguely's mother Marta says she's "devastated and confused" by the horrific killing of the UVA senior that's gripped the nation.

"It has been difficult to remain silent during this dark, tumultuous time," Marta Murphy wrote in an email to The Washington Post.

She says that she is among those mourning the beautiful lacrosse star.

"Yeardley was part of our lives. I got to know her as George's mom. She was a sweet wonderful, young woman with a limitless future."

Huguely's mom has been making regular visits to her son in jail with her second husband and says she's standing by his side no matter what.

"Understand that both George's father and I love our son. We will support George in whatever way we can, just as any mother or father would do for their child."

Yeardley's tragic killing has clearly stuck a nerve. Her heartbreaking story is on the cover of the new issue of People magazine.

Her grief-stricken mother Sharon tells the magazine, "Yeardley loved life and lived it to the fullest, always with a big, bright smile and positive attitude."
