Obama's Add New Dog, Sunny To White House Family

The first family's new dog, Sunny, clearly loving her White House digs, comes from a small town in Michigan.

The 14-month-old Portuguese Water Dog is believed to have come from a breeder 60 miles from Detroit called Allegiance Portuguese Water Dogs. The breeder takes the placement of puppies very seriously, saying, we match the puppy to the right family. Enter the first family.

Michelle Obama welcomed Sunny, named for her cheerful disposition, with a tweet: "So excited to introduce the newest member of the Obama family -- our puppy, Sunny!"

President Obama chimed in with, "Welcome to the family, Sunny."

The Obamas chose another allergy-friendly Portuguese Water Dog like Bo because of 15-year-old Malia's allergies.

INSIDE EDITION's Megan Alexander caught up with dog trainer Andrea Arden in New York.

Alexander asked, "Bo, underwent pretty extensive training. What type of training would you recommend for Sunny?"

"I think the most important thing is to remember is that even though Sunny is a year old, doesn't mean that they don't need help to adjust to a new family. So you need to make sure that you're teaching your dog to greet people politely. To sit, because this a breed that tends to be very jumpy," said Arden.

Bo has won the hearts of the nation, even gracing the cover of the New Yorker and the Obamas' Christmas card last year.

When the president was elected to a second term, he had this to say: "For now, one dog's probably enough."

So what changed? Michelle thought Bo needed a playmate.

Arden said, "It probably would be beneficial for a dog like Bo to have access to their own kind so that they can burn off a lot of energy, both mental and physical."

But, how does Bo really feel about his new little sister?

The Today show's Savannah Guthrie said, "You know who could not be reached for comment? Bo."

Good Morning America's Elizabeth Vargas said, "No word yet on how Bo, the first dog feels about sharing the dog house at the White House."

Alexander asked Arden, "Will there be any sibling rivaly between Bo and the new dog, Sunny?"

"Well, there always could be. But the most important thing is that you make sure that you give the dogs equal amounts of love," said Arden.
