'Because She Worked Alone' Suspect Utters Callous Remarks About Slaying Of Real Estate Agent

A truck driver has been arrested in the slaying of real estate agent Beverly Carter, and has some callous words for the press. INSIDE EDITION has the scoop.

Aaron Lewis is the 33-year-old truck driver accused of murdering a real estate agent who was showing him a house.

He was asked as he was taken to jail in shackles, “Why Beverly? Why Beverly?”

His callous words were, “She was a rich broker.”

Beverly Carter's body was found overnight in a shallow grave 30 miles from where she was abducted. Lewis pled not guilty at his arraignment Tuesday.

He was asked, “You pled not guilty, why?”

Lewis replied, “Because that's what my lawyer said to do.”

He was captured in Little Rock, Arkansas after he was spotted on the street by a citizen

Caller: “They're looking for a guy here that was involved in a realtor being kidnapped. And this guy looks like him and he is nervous.”
911 operator: “What color shirt and pants is he wearing?”
Caller: “He's wearing a black shirt and some jeans shorts.”
911 operator: “Ok, don't tip him off or anything. We'll get someone out there.”

HLN host Nancy Grace has been following the case.

She told INSIDE EDITION, "This case has sent a chill across the country to working women. The Constitution does not protect you when you choose to gab to journalists. What he said, in a nutshell, people were firing questions at him as he was going in and out of the jailhouse, and he said, 'I wanted to plead guilty! But my lawyers wouldn't let me! I wanted to tell the family, 'I'm sorry.'"

Lewis’ girlfriend, Crystal Lowery, shot video of him doing crazy stunts on his motorcycle on a highway in Arkansas which he posted online. But now, his days as a daredevil are over.

He said, “I'm just sorry it all happened.”

Prosecutors plan to seek the death penalty.
