Loud Music Murder Trial Ends in Life Sentence and a Mother's Forgiveness

Michael Dunn received a life sentence in the loud music murder trial, but the teen’s mother is forgiving him. INSIDE EDITION has details.

There was drama in court as a grieving mom forgave the businessman who killed her son for playing loud music.

The mother said, "I pray that God has mercy on your soul."

And later she explained,  "It was easy enough for me to forgive him because I believe that he was very, very misguided."

Lucia McBath is the mother of 17-year-old Jordan, who was gunned down outside of a convenience store in Jacksonville, Florida, in 2012 following an argument over loud music coming from a S.U.V.

Forty-seven-year-old Michael Dunn fired into the vehicle eight times.

Dunn's girlfriend was inside the convenience store and gunfire could be heard in the surveillance video as he opened fire on Jordan and three friends who were in the S.U.V.

In the video, the girlfriend can be heard shouting, "Oh my god! Somebody's shooting!"

Dunn sauntered jauntily into court for his sentencing in the racially charged case and read an apology.

He said, "I truly regret what happened. I'm sorry for their loss and if I could roll back time and do things differently, I would."

INSIDE EDITION'S Les Trent asked Lucia, "Michael Dunn did offer an apology. Do you think it was sincere?"

Lucia answered, "I will accept his apology, but of course, how sincere he is with that, that's between him and God."

She also told Trent why she felt she had to forgive Dunn. She said, "I had to forgive Michael Dunn because I would be the biggest hypocrite in the world if I did not forgive him when I was trying to raise Jordan to be that kind of individual, forgiving."

Dunn was sentenced to life without parole, plus 75 years. The judge dramatically summed up what that sentence means for Dunn.

Judge Russell Healey said, "Mr. Dunn, your life is effectively over."
