Book Bag Stops Bullet From Killing FSU Student in Shooting Rampage

INSIDE EDITION reports on a Florida State University student who was saved from being shot in the shooting rampage, by his book bag.

It's a cell phone video of one of the victims in the Florida State University shooting. It shows someone asking the victim, "Oh my God, are you okay?"

The victim replied, "My Thigh. It's bleeding. It hurts."

The young man can be seen sprawled on the ground and holding his thigh.

Another student narrowly avoided getting shot thanks to the books inside his backpack. You can see the holes. The book that saved his life? Great Medieval Thinkers. Lucky for him it's a really thick book.

Terrified students hid inside a pitch black broom closet. Police lead them them through the library in silence with their hands in the air. You could hear the incredible relief in a young man's voice when he reached safety.

"Thank God," he said.

Several coeds sent heartbreaking messages to their parents in the midst of the crisis.

"There's a man with a gun in the library. I love you," Samantha Sillick texted her dad.

Still, others signed their names to this dry erase board under the word, "Survivors."
