Matthew McConaughey Spends His 48th Birthday Handing Out 4,500 Turkeys

For Matthew McConaughey, birthdays are for the birds.

The Oscar-winning actor surprised the town of Lawrenceburg, Ky., Saturday when he volunteered his time to pass out 4,500 turkeys to families in the area.

The Dazed and Confused star spent his 48th birthday at the town's Wild Turkey Distillery, for which he is a spokesman, and rallied up some volunteers to pass out the frozen birds to area families.

McConaughey and the company took to Facebook Live where he said: “250 volunteers are going to deliver 4,500 turkeys to people around Lawrenceburg, and the volunteers that are here don’t know I’m here, so Eddie Russell’s about to invite me on hopefully to surprise them… And it’s my birthday.”

His mission was to “make some people happy” as they handed out the frozen birds that were donated by Butterball.

“We believe in our family that the more you’re thankful for, the more you’re going to create in your life to be thankful for,” he said in the Facebook Live video.

The Wolf of Wall Street actor also met the mother of master distiller Eddie Russell, whose family has run the company since the late 1800s. Upon meeting Joretta Russell, the matriarch screamed with joy at the sight of McConaughey.
