School Kids Served 6-Year-Old Pork For Lunch

When a school lunch worker in Tennessee sent a picture of the school lunch to a county commissioner who’s also a parent, the reaction was pure shock.

School kids were served meat that was over six years old. The picture of the meat looked unappetizing, but when the commissioner learned the meat had been frozen since 2009, things started to heat up.

Hawkins County Commissioner Michael Herrell told the local station, "These high-schoolers -- they understand if they see something they are not going to like, they don't eat it. But when you get to these kindergartners, first- and second-graders, do they really know if the meat is bad or not?"

Some school cafeterias used extra gravy to cover up the awful taste.

So far, no students have become sick from the meat. The County Director of Schools said they conducted tests after discovering the meat had been served, and found nothing harmful.

The school district has thrown out all the old frozen meat and says they will follow USDA guidelines for storing and serving food.
