The Dating Game's Serial Killer Contestant
Rodney Alcala, who once looked for love on the TV show The Dating Game, has been convicted of murdering five people, including 12-year-old Robin Samsoe. INSIDE EDITION reports.
A bachelor looking for love on a 1978 episode of The Dating Game is now a convicted serial killer.
Despite Alcala's weird demeanor on the show, the bachelorette chose him...But they never went on the date.
"She found him extremely creepy and she wanted nothing to do with him," LA Weekly reporter Christine Pelisek told INSIDE EDITION.
Now Alcala is sentenced to death after being found guilty of five murders in Southern California, including the death of 12-year-old Robin Samsoe. Prosecutors proved DNA linked Alcala to all the victims.
Alcala, who has a near-genius IQ, defended himself at trial, but he was sentenced to die by lethal injection. The courtroom burst into applause.
Character actor Jed Mills is the man who sat right next to Alcala as Bachelor Number Two.
"How does it feel knowing you were on The Dating Game possibly sitting next to a serial killer?" INSIDE EDITION's Jim Moret asked him.
"Bizarre...It was so strange," said Mills.
Cops say back in 1979 Alcala snatched 12-year-old Samsoe from an Orange County beach. Her body was found dumped in the woods.
Robin's mother, Marianne Connolly, has spent the last 30 years trying to get justice for her daughter.
"You must look at him as a monster," said Jim Moret.
"He is a monster," Connolly said.
She revealed to INSIDE EDITION a secret she's kept for three decades. In 1980, during Alcala's first trial, she snuck a loaded pistol into the courtroom.
"Why didn't you pull the trigger?" asks Moret.
"I started smelling her shampoo in the courtroom, and I felt her hand on my wrist and it was like my hand was frozen there, I couldn't have shot him if I tried. My hand was frozen there. I felt her hand on me, that's the reason I didn't shoot him," she said tearfully.
"Do you sometimes wish you had?" Moret asked.
"Yes...it makes me bad, and I'm bad, but yes."
"If you could say anything to that man what would you say to him?"
"I hope you burn forever, the ultimate burn in hell," she said.
Alcala was found guilty of murder during two previous trials but the convictions were overturned because of technicalities. Incredibly, he was already a convicted child molester when he appeared on The Dating Game.
