20 Years After 'Parent Trap,' Star Says Her Character Was Misunderstood
Two decades after the film was released, fans are now rooting for Elaine Hendrix's character, Meredith.
The character everyone loved to hate in “The Parent Trap” is looking back on 20 years of the film’s success.
The movie, which made a star of Lindsay Lohan, was released on July 29, 1998.
Two decades later, Elaine Hendrix, who played Meredith, spoke to Inside Edition about her character, who was engaged to the twins' father.
“Meredith was very misunderstood. She knew what she wanted and she went after it,” she told Inside Edition.
Hendrix remembers the 1998 film and how her reputation in the film had people hating her.
But now, 20 years later on social media, "Mean Meredith" is getting a reevaluation by millennials who see her as an inspiration.
"For the longest time people hated me and now Meredith has turned a corner somehow and now everybody loves her,” she said, laughing.
"I think they see her now as more of a role model and an inspiration. She had great fashion sense and she has a great job and she was going after a really hunky man. Nothing wrong with any of that.”
Hendrix said she still gets a laugh out of watching the movie and is no longer the wicked step-mother-to-be.
She even suggested an idea for a sequel: "It should be Meredith’s revenge, for sure!”
