Toy to the World: Here Is the Year's Must-Have Holiday Gift for Kids, but Good Luck Finding It

Every kid wants to get their hands on a Hatchimal this Christmas, but they are in short supply.

The hottest toy this holiday season is leaving many parents burned because it seems to be sold out everywhere.

The big item is called a Hatchimal, an egg that eventually hatches to reveal a furry creature that will mature right in front of its owner’s eyes.

Toy stores across the country are being bombarded with customers desperately trying to buy Hatchimals.

At Mary Arnold Toys in New York City, the phone is ringing off the hook with people asking for the figure.

Owner and store namesake Mary Arnold told Inside Edition: "We had Hatchimal's very early in the season and they were gone in a week. We tried to reorder and we were told they were sold out."

Manufactured by Canadian company Spin Master, the toy first hit shelves in October and at a retail price of $59.99. But since their release, they have tripled in price on secondary markets like eBay.

Dottie Russo went on YouTube in November to express her frustration about her inability to find the toy, calling it a “sick idea.”

"I just wanted to put it on tape because I felt I could not possibly be the only person experiencing this and I feel like all mothers can relate to this because every year there is a hot new toy," she told Inside Edition.

Her message was also directed at people who were stockpiling them to make a hefty profit from resales.

“You gotta do the right thing and give 'em up,” she said.

And someone was listening, as Russo's 2-year-old daughter, Gia, was given one.

"This woman, who had no idea who I was as a person, she just made it her mission to make sure my kids got one, Russo told Inside Edition.

Hatchimals join a long list of Christmas “it" toys like Cabbage Patch Dolls, Furbies, Tickle-Me-Elmo and the original Nintendo.
