The world woke to news that Elizabeth Taylor died this morning at age 79. INSIDE EDITION reports on the mourning tributes that are pouring in for the celebrated actress and humanitarian.
The world is mourning the death of one of Hollywood's all-time greats, Elizabeth Taylor, who passed away today at age 79.
The screen legend died of congestive heart failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she'd been hospitalized for the last six weeks.
She was surrounded by her four children. Her family says her condition had recently stabilized, and they had hoped she'd be able to return home, but it was not to be.
All of the TV networks broke into regular programming just after 9:00 am this morning to report her death.
Taylor's eldest son, Michael Wilding, said in a statement:
"My mother was an extraordinary woman who lived life to the fullest, with great passion, humor, and love. Her legacy will never fade, her spirit will always be with us, and her love will live forever in our hearts."
Mike Fleeman, West Coast Editor at People magazine told INSIDE EDITION, "The family was prepared for this. Her children were there when she died. They described it as a peaceful, serene death."
Now we're learning more about Taylor's last days. She celebrated her 79th birthday with friends at her Beverly Hills mansion last January.
She was devoted to Twitter right to the end. Her Twitter page, Dame Elizabeth, still has this final tweet:
"My interview in Bazaar with Kim Kardashian came out!"
In the March issue of Harper's Bazaar, Taylor gave what turned out to be her final interview to Kardashian, telling her: "I never planned to acquire a lot of jewels or a lot of husbands. For me, life happened."
"She lived life to the fullest with passion and humor and love," said Fleeman.
The tributes are pouring in. Larry King was summoned back by CNN to host his old show show. The topic? A tribute to his old friend, Liz.
King said, "I was very sad. She was a great friend, and a wonderful lady. A terrific lady."
Singer Elton John said, "We have just lost a Hollywood giant. More importantly, we have lost an incredible human being."
Actress Jane Fonda described her as "Kind, generous, brave."
No one lived a life like Elizabeth Taylor. Lover. Wife. Mother. Humanitarian. Actress. Icon.
