Dehydrated Baby Hippo, Abandoned by Mom, Rescued From Mud Swamp
The adorable animal is now doing well.
An adorable baby hippo’s life was saved after spending several days stranded alone in a thick mud pool in Kenya.
Humpty was spotted in the fast-drying mud swamp after being abandoned by her mother. Rescuers from the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and a Kenya Wildlife Service vet pulled her to safety with a huge net.

Rescuers waded through knee deep mud to reach Humpty in a daring rescue shared by Caters News. The hippo was found to be dehydrated, sunburnt and barely able to move.
"The baby hippo had been observed for a few days to ascertain that it was, in fact, an orphan,” A DSWT spokesperson said. "Given the remoteness and inaccessibility of the area, rescuing Humpty certainly presented a challenge. But a challenge we had to rise to, as, without intervention, it was evident she was going to die.”

Thankfully, Humpty will now go on to live a full life. She is recovering at a local rehabilitation clinic where she will remain until she can return to the wild.
"Thankfully, the rescue was a seamless success and we were able to extract Humpty by helicopter without a hitch," the spokesperson said: "Safe to say, our little orphan Humpty is an exceptionally spoiled and lucky little baby hippo."
