Katie Couric's First Return Visit to Today
Katie Couric paid a visit to the Today show for the first time since leaving her job as co-host five years ago. INSIDE EDITION has the details.
It was a homecoming at the Today show! Katie Couric returned for the first time since she left to anchor the CBS Evening News five years ago.
Couric arrived early and explored her old stomping ground backstage, much to former co-host Matt Lauer's amusement
When Couric sat down for an interview with Lauer, he got right down to business.
"Have you heard any good rumors lately?" he asked.
Couric remained coy about the big question: Is she or is she not leaving the CBS Evening News?
"No, have you?" she said, dodging the question.
"What are you going to do?" Lauer asked.
"I'm not sure. I'm really excited about the future, I love doing my job at the CBS Evening News, I really do, I'm just in the middle of figuring it out," said Couric.
But she did hint that she'd like to do a syndicated talk show, a blend of Oprah, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and The View.
"I think a smart conversation about a whole host of subjects would be really fun," she said.
When Lauer asked when Couric planned to make a decision about her future, she said, "I'm hoping in the next few weeks."
"But as the speculation continues, the longer it goes, the more headlines that are in the paper, the more time being taken away and space being taken away from important things like Charlie Sheen, so this is a problem," Lauer said.
Couric laughed. "That's true, I need to give the headlines back to Charlie. I feel really bad about that."
