Ashton Kutcher Replacing Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men

After months of speculation, CBS has revealed that Ashton Kutcher will be taking over for Charlie Sheen on TV's number one comedy.

Kutcher said in a statement, "I can't replace Charlie Sheen, but I'm going to work my [---] off to entertain the hell out of people!"

"We are so lucky to have someone as talented, joyful and just plain remarkable as Ashton joining our family," Two and a Half Men Executive Producer Chuck Lorre says.

And Charlie Sheen is reacting to the news. He is quoted as saying, "Kutcher is a sweetheart and a brilliant comedic performer...Oh wait, so am I!"

He also took a swipe at his sworn enemy, Chuck Lorre: "Enjoy planet Chuck, Ashton. There is no air, laughter, loyalty, or love there."

Sheen also says the show's ratings will tank without him.

Kutcher is getting a "huge payday" to join the sitcom, thought to be up to $1 million an episode. That's half of what Sheen was paid.

"CBS is unveiling its fall lineup to advertisers next week. They wanted to tell those advertisers that they are bringing 'Two and a Half Men' back, and to make that a strong announcement, you needed to say who was going to replace Charlie Sheen," TV Guide's Stephen Battaglio told INSIDE EDITION.

CBS had reportedly offered the role to British actor Hugh Grant, but he turned it down.

This will be Kutcher's first regular TV role since his big break on That '70s Show.

"I think it's a very solid choice. Ashton Kutcher was very popular on 'That '70s Show' for years, and he's become a bigger celebrity because of his marriage to Demi Moore," Battaglio said.

INSIDE EDITION's Facebook page is buzzing with reaction to the news: Melissa says, "Ashton is a good choice. I think it will work!" and Nico says, "Ashton Kutcher is going to make the show much better to watch."

But comedian Larry David disagrees. He tweeted, "Bad move my friends! -L.D."

Neil Patrick Harris, who stars on CBS's How I Met Your Mother, had yet another take, tweeting, "Ashton's replacing Charlie? Good times!"

And Kutcher and Sheen actually share a surprising connection. Kutcher's wife, Demi Moore, was once engaged to Sheen's brother, Emilio Estevez.

Meanwhile, Chuck Lorre says he has already figured out how to introduce Ashton Kutcher's new character on the show.
