Christina Aguilera may be a big star now, but INSIDE EDITION found the man who won a Star Search contest over Aguilera. So, what happened to his career?
Christina Aguilera is one of the biggest stars in the world today.
You may have heard Aguilera got her start on Star Search. It was her first time on national television. Ed McMahon couldn’t even pronounce her name.
But what you probably don't know is that Aguilera didn't even win. The eight-year-old cutie pie was beaten by 12-year-old Christopher Eason when they went head-to-head on Star Search back in 1990.
Christina went on to international super-stardom. But we wondered, whatever happened to Eason?
INSIDE EDITION found him working at a coffee shop in Oklahoma City, making lattes and double cappuccinos.
“To me, you live life with no regrets. Coulda, woulda, shoulda. Who can say what would have turned out at the end of the day,” said Eason.
Eason said even he was surprised when he beat Aguilera. “Oh wow, at that moment I was completely shocked."
After the win, the offers poured in, but nothing much came of it.
“Sometimes things just don't work out the way that you planned,” said Eason.
Eason's career never took off. But 22 years later, he's still at it, singing and recording in his spare time.
"I've been preparing myself for my moment ever since I was a little kid, and so I’m prepared now,” said Eason.
Eason said he got quite a shock when Aguilera mentioned him during a recent appearance on The Tonight Show.
“I lost, I lost,” Aguilera told Leno.
"Christina Aguilera didn't win," said Leno.
"My mom made me be a good sport, and go up and congratulate Christopher Eason," Aguilera said.
Eason said, “I am very proud of her, and her hard work that she's put into the industry and her dues. I hope to one day get to where she's at."
