Miss Alabama Flattered By Brent Musburger's Comments
Miss Alabama Katherine Webb says she was flattered by the comments made by sports announcer Brent Musburger during the college football championship game, and no apology is necessary. INSIDE EDITION has the scoop.
Miss Alabama doesn't have a problem with being ogled on national television.
During Monday night's college football championship game between Alabama and Notre Dame, legendary sports broadcaster Brent Musburger waxed poetic about beauty queen Katherine Webb. She dates Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron.
Musburger said on the air, "You quarterbacks, you get all the good looking women."
"I think the media has been really unfair to him," Webb said on the Today show. "I don't see why any woman wouldn't be flattered by that."
Others had different reactions.
A CNN anchor said, "Some people were calling it creepy."
Webb also points out that Musburger noted the presence of McCarron's mother, Dee Dee.
"I think if he would have said something along the lines of, 'We were hot' or 'We were sexy' or made any derogatory statements like that, I think that would have been a little bit different," said Webb.
ESPN has issued an apology for Musberger, saying, "The commentary in this instance went too far."
Webb said, "Of course, I appreciate it. At the same time, I don't think I needed an apology."
Donald Trump, who owns the Miss USA competition in which Katherine Webb competed last June, agrees.
Trump told INSIDE EDITION's Megan Alexander, "I think an apology is ridiculous. She gets called a beautiful woman and you're supposed to apologize?"
INSIDE EDITION was there as Trump crowned the new Miss USA. Nana Meriwether is taking over for Olivia Culpo, who was just crowned Miss Universe. They both competed against Webb.
Alexander asked Culpo, "Would an apology have been necessary for you? How would you have reacted?"
Culpo told Alexander, "He was just being nice. He's a nice guy. He wasn't trying to be creepy. He really thought she was beautiful. And she is beautiful."
Katherine Webb may have stolen the spotlight from her quarterback boyfriend, but appearing on the Today show, she tried to shine it right back on him.
"I think that we need to draw our attention back to who the real winners are, and that's the Alabama football team," said Webb.
