"Accidental Racist" Song By Brad Paisley And LL Cool J Ignites Controversy

It's a new song from an unlikely duo, country singer Brad Paisley and rapper LL Cool J.

Some of the lyrics say:

“I’m proud of where I’m from
(If you don't judge my gold chains)
But not everything we've done
(I’ll forget the iron chains)”

But their new song is causing a firestorm. 

The song, called "Accidential Racist" appears on Paisley's new album and addresses race relations in America. 

Some of the lyrics say:

“Dear Mr. White man, I wish you understood
What the world is really like when you're livin' in the hood
Just because my pants are saggin' doesn't mean I’m up to no good”

Jason Johnson, a professor of Political Science and Communications at Hiram College in Northeast Ohio said on CNN, “It was some of the most asinine things I’ve heard from a rapper. It sounds like a 14 year old's black history month project.”

The Huffington Post says the song "Will probably make you cringe because it over-simplifies the history of racism.”

The country superstar appeared on Ellen to explain.

Ellen asked, “There's a track on here called “Accidental Racist.” Tell people what is going on.”

Paisley replied, “I did a duet with LL Cool J who has become one of my best friends in the world. I don’t know if anyone has noticed, but there’s some racial tension. I think its music’s turn to have the conversation.”

LL and Paisley have a tight bond. The NCIS:Los Angeles star just introduced Paisley at the Country Music Awards.

Firestorm or no, they are finding support from Whoopi Goldberg.

On The View, Whoopi said “The conversation has to continue to happen. I'm very proud of the both of them for at least beginning the conversation.”
