New Sexting Scandal Clouds Anthony Weiner's Campaign
Under the name 'Carlos Danger,' Anthony Weiner exchanged X-rated texts and photos with a young woman after he resigned from Congress for his previous sexting scandal. INSIDE EDITION has the latest details.
The woman at the center of the new scandal involving disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner, who's running for mayor of New York City is a stunning 23-year-old woman from Illinois who worked as a field organizer for the Obama campaign in 2012.
Her name is Sydney Leathers.
Weiner was back on the campaign trail today, despite being the target of merciless mockery. He admitted he exchanged racy texts and x-rated pictures with Sydney Leathers. He used the name Carlos Danger.
Weiner told reporters, "These things are in my past. These things are in my past."
In one text Weiner writes: "What are you wearing? Much for me to take off? I'd hold you by your throat."
She answers: "I'm wearing a skirt and no panties."
In another he writes: "I've found the perfect woman. Gorgeous, sexy and a bit of my crazy."
The latest sexting scandal after Weiner resigned from Congress and underwent therapy.
INSIDE EDITION spoke with psyhologist Dr. Jeff Gardere.
"This is really a psychological illness. A psychological disease that he is powerless over," said Gardere.
Weiner's long-suffering wife, Huma Abedin is seen as Weiner's only shot at surviving the storm.
Abedin said at a press conference, "I love him. I have forgiven him. I believe in him. And as we have said in the beginning, we are moving forward. I made the decision that it was worth staying in this marriage."
Her appearance at his side is being compared with former New York Governor Elliot Spitzer's wife, Silda who has kept out of sight as he campaigns for New York City Comptroller. Abedin is drawing mixed reaction.
Sharon Osbourne said on The Talk, "It makes women look like doormats! I'd have gone out there and I would have said, maybe I love him. Then I would have gone bash [swinging her arm]."
Radio talk show host Leslie Marshall said on Fox News, "Although I have great respect for his wife, I would have kicked my husband to the curb, personally."
MSNBC's Morning Joe co-host Mika Brzezinski said, "What she did, I thought it was absolutely extraordinary. I was riveted by her."
But Joy Behar had no sympathy for her on The View.
"She was way too nice in that thing. He needs to be married to Judge Judy," said Behar.
INSIDE EDITION's Diane McInerney spoke with HLN's Jane Velez-Mitchell.
McInerney asked, "Why do you think Huma is standing by her man?"
Velez-Mitchell said, "I believe Anthony Weiner is a sex addict. That's my personal opinion. He can't help himself. He's powerless over his behavior and his impulses, and she's hooked on the drama and the excitement. That's called co-dependancy, and often it masquerades as love."
Today, Weiner was surrounded by reporters bombarding him with questions about Abedin. Weiner said, "I've got an amazing wife, child upstairs. These things are in my past. I think the citizens will understand that. My wife certainly does."
But few will forget that embarrassing pseudonym he used—Carlos Danger:
Gardere said, "I believe it came straight from his subconscious to use the name Carlos Danger. It is the danger that heightened the sexual feelings. Almost like a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde."
The salacious details of the scandal are a boon to the late night comics.
Conan O'Brien joked, "In a press conference Weiner apologized and said this will never happen again, or my name isn't Carlos Danger."
David Letterman's Top Ten List was other names Weiner could have used.
"No. Eight: Eliot Spitzer. No. Five: Dwight Thighsenhower. No. Three, Donald Hump."
