Amy Robach Updates On Breast Cancer Battle
Amy Robach returned to Good Morning America after her announcement that she has cancer. INSIDE EDITION has the story.
Brave Amy Robach reveals that her breast cancer has spread to her lymph nodes as she makes her first appearance on Good Morning America since she underwent a double mastectomy three weeks ago.
“I made the choice to have the double mastectomy. For me, it felt like the right choice, and it turned out to be the right choice, because not only did they find another malignant tumor, they saw problems in my left breast as well,” she said.
In addition to the malignant tumor detected through Robach's mammogram, doctors found another previously undetected tumor and abnormal cells were discovered in her other breast.
Because Robach's stage two cancer had spread, doctors also removed 13 lymph nodes.
Robach is on the cover of the latest issue of People magazine released last Friday. Inside, she poses with her husband, actor Andrew Shue.
“Physically, I feel remarkably well. Mentally it's another challenge because that was phase one,” said Robach.
Robach says that she'll now undergo four months of chemotherapy. "It's going to be a crappy year, and then I'll be on drugs for probably the next 10 years, and there are other issues down the road that we're discussing and we're dealing with. It's about being vigilant and taking care of myself," Robach told People.
She also shared, “There are days when, if you really let your mind wander, it's fairly devastating. But you keep your head together, you’re coming to work, you hug your friends, and you’re thankful to be where you are with your family and the people who matter.”
