Some Parents Plea to VMA’s: No More Mileygate!

MTV is getting a stern warning from the Parents Television Council that they do not want a repeat of "Mileygate." INSIDE EDITION explains.
"Don't repeat "Mileygate.”
That's the message being sent to MTV by the Parents Television Council. They want the network to tone things down at this weekend's Video Music Awards.
The conservative watchdog group has sent MTV a letter asking them to "commit publicly that the program will not contain the type of explicit sexual content present in last year's show."
INSIDE EDITION's Diane McInerney spoke to Melissa Henson of the Parents Television Council.
McInerney asked, "What is your biggest concern about the VMA's?"
Henson replied, "These kinds of performances are overly sexual, overly sexualizing, especially of the female performers. And I think really inappropriate given the audience of the MTV networks."
A firestorm of controversy erupted last year when Cyrus hit the stage with Robin Thicke for that raunchy twerking performance.
Garrett English is the Executive Producer of this year's VMA’s. He told INSIDE EDITION, “Last year, with Miley, was a moment that resonated and continues to resonate with our audience and culture at large. I think it's always going to be our task where that kind of spontaneity, that kind of excitement can happen."

The show is known for its shock value. In 2003, Britney Spears and Madonna made headlines with their on-stage lip lock.
This year's ceremony, airing live on Sunday night from Los Angeles' Forum Theater, is sure to push the envelope. Nicki Minaj is scheduled to perform her new song, "Anaconda,” and the music video is so raunchy it has to be edited for TV.
The VMA's is rated TV-14, but the parents television council is asking for a TV-MA rating, which means it may be unsuitable for children under 17.
Henson said, "The networks are deliberately misrating the content, underrating the content, saying that is appropriate for a 14-year-old, when really, it should be rated for a more mature audience."
Beyonce is also going to take center stage with what is certain to be a super sexy performance.
English said, “I think the VMA's is about creative expression. Our position is always try to support that creative expression wherever it takes us.”
