Animal Cruelty Charges Filed Against Man Videotaped Dangling Dog By Its Neck From Balcony

Man surrenders to cops after disturbing video goes viral showing him holding dog by its neck over a balcony.

A Florida man was apparently shamed into surrendering to authorities after a video of him dangling a dog from a second-floor balcony went viral, police said.

Ransom May, 23, turned himself in to police “due to pressure from media and detectives looking for him,” according to Orlando police.

The dog, a white pit bull named Cocaine, was located Tuesday night and is in good condition, police said.

In the video, which was posted to social media, May is seen holding the dog by its neck from a second-floor apartment balcony, police said. After someone reported the video to Orange County Animal Services, an investigation was started by police.

May was charged Tuesday with animal cruelty and released on $1,000 bail.

The incident began while May argued with his girlfriend over who owned the dog, according to his arrest affidavit. The man threatened to kill the dog, police said.

“Ransom May advised he held the dog by the scruff of its neck and did not believe he was hurting the dog while he held it over the railing of the second-floor walkway. He advised he never hurt an animal in his life,” the document said.
