Thieves Wearing Trump Masks Blow Up ATMs in String of Hollywood-Inspired Robberies: Cops
Two Italian men have been charged in connection with a string of cash machine robberies that authorities say were inspired — at least in part — by Hollywood capers.
But instead of The Italian Job, police said Monday the idea was borne of a less likely film.
"Inspired by the film 'The Jackal', whose protagonist, played by Bruce Willis, changes the color of his car because police are in pursuit, the two brothers painted their [white] Mercedes black," Italian police said in a statement.
Reuters reports that the brothers, aged 26 and 30, wore Donald Trump masks as they targeted dozens of ATMs in northern Italy near the city of Turin.
Footage of the brazen thefts show a suspect in a Trump mask planting an explosive in a cash machine before ducking around a corner and lighting a fuse.
The names of the suspects have not been released, but authorities did reveal they were brothers.
