1 of 5 Americans Held in Turks & Caicos on Ammo Charges Is Released

The first American tourist to be trapped for months on the Turks & Caicos islands is free. Bryan Hagerich was given a suspended one-year prison sentence by a judge, and was immediately released. Hagerich is one of five Americans who accidentally brought ammunition to the islands in their luggage. That’s a violation of the nation’s strict gun laws, and carries a mandatory 12-year prison term. Hagerich’s sentence is raising hopes that the remaining Americans will soon be set free.
