How a ‘50s-Style Diner Helps Woman With Alzheimer’s

A time capsule created at Glenner Town Square in Chula Vista, California, is helping Alzheimer’s patients like Jackie Dwyer stay active and alert by surrounding her with familiar memories. A '50s-themed diner has a jukebox playing rock 'n' roll classics and a 1959 Ford Thunderbird on display. You'll also find other midcentury relics like phone booths with rotary dials, record players and vintage clothing. Dwyer’s daughter Kimberly says the music helps jog her mom’s memory.
