How Bandits Got Away With the 1972 Heist of the Pierre Hotel

On Jan. 2, 1972, the Pierre Hotel in Manhattan became the target of what the Guinness Book of World Records now calls the largest unsolved hotel robbery in history. Over $27 million in jewels and cash were stolen out of the hotel’s safety deposit boxes by eight armed men who took over the hotel just after before 3 a.m. Authorities reportedly have long believed they knew who was responsible for the heist, but to this day, no one has been brought to justice for the crime.
