In July 1997, Italian fashion icon Gianni Versace was murdered in front of his Miami mansion. In the hours after his death, police and FBI agents identified California native Andrew Cunanan as the gunman. Cunanan, whom authorities called a serial killer, was on the lam for eight days. He was eventually found dead by suicide at the Miami houseboat where he’d been hiding.
