The worldwide shortage of helium is leading to a crisis for anyone planning on throwing a party. Just last week Party City announced it was shutting down 45 stores across the U.S. The company insists the closures have nothing to do with the helium shortage, but it's a fact that the cost of blowing up balloons with helium is skyrocketing, if you can find helium at all. About 75% of helium gas is mined from just three places in the world: Texas, Wyoming and the Middle East nation of Qatar.
