Organ Delivered to Hospital by Drone for 1st Time
"One small hope for a drone. One leap for medicine,” one of the drone operators said.
For the first time in medical history, a donated kidney has been delivered by a drone.
The miraculous feat started at a parking lot in West Baltimore, Maryland. The drone was sent airborne and flew for nearly 3 miles to the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Waiting for the kidney was a 44-year-old woman who's been on dialysis for eight years.
Teams were in place on both ends for the trip and operators monitored the drone for the duration of the flight.
The entire trip took 9 minutes and 52 seconds. The landing with its precious cargo was picture-perfect.
"One small hope for a drone. One leap for medicine,” one of the drone operators said.
