Prince Charles Holds Beaming George on His Lap in Photo Marking 70th Birthday
The prince and his closest family members posed in the Clarence House garden.
Prince Charles turned 70 Wednesday and the royal family released new photos to mark the milestone.
Charles recently said he came to the “alarming realization that I have reached the biblical threshold of three score years and 10,” in a special edition of the British magazine "Country Life."
In a candid photo taken in the gardens of the Clarence House in London, Charles holds 6-year-old Prince George, while his family crowds behind him.
The photos, which were shot by Chris Jackson on Sept. 5, include Prince William and Prince Harry, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, and Charles’ two other grandchildren, 3-year-old Princess Charlotte and 6-month-old Prince Louis, as well as his wife, Camilla.
“I was delighted to have been asked to take these portraits of the Prince of Wales surrounded by his family to celebrate the important milestone of his 70th birthday,” Jackson said in a statement.
Charles, who is the heir to the throne, will celebrate his landmark birthday with a banquet hosted by the queen at Buckingham palace Wednesday.
