Why James Charles Posted His Own Nude Selfie After Getting Hacked: 'Having Your Own Power ... Is Important'
"It's not that big of a deal, everybody has a butt," James Charles told InsideEdition.com.
James Charles isn't afraid to bare it all.
After a hacker threatened to release nude photos of Charles on Twitter over the weekend, 20-year-old Charles released what he said was the one and only naked selfie he'd ever taken — a spectacular shot of his behind amid the setting sun.
"hi I got my account back," he wrote on Twitter together with the image. "just case I ever get hacked again, here’s the ONLY nude I’ve ever taken! can’t threaten me with it now."
Asked about the photo on the red carpet at the MTV Video Music Awards, Charles said he snapped it on a whim. "I was heading into the shower after a long day of a photo shoot and I decided, 'Let me snap a picture,'" he told InsideEdition.com.
Charles added that it was important to him to share the image in order to take his power back from the hacker.
"Having your own power over your social media is very, very important, and to have not only my power, but also my security and privacy threatened was very, very scary and this was a way to take it back," he said.
"I've grown to love my body," he continued. "I worked hard for it. It's not that big of a deal, everybody has a butt. I think it's fun to love yourself and to show everything off — if you want to, of course."
