Did Martin Short's Character Drive Celeb Dermatologist to Suicide?

Dr. Fredric Brandt was loved by all that knew him.

Did this world-famous celebrity doctor hang himself because he was mocked by comedian Martin Short in a new TV show?

Dermatologist Dr. Fredric Brandt was found dead at his home in Miami on Sunday.

Dr. Brandt was widely believed to be the inspiration for a character in the new Netflix sitcom Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, created by Tina Fey.

In episode 4, the doctor, played by Martin Short, bears a striking resemblance to 65-year-old Dr. Brandt, with long blonde hair worn in the same style, and bee-stung lips.

Miami Herald columnist Lesley Abravanel says the over-the-top charicature drove the real Dr. Brandt over the edge.

Abravanel told INSIDE EDITION, "He was beloved. People loved him. He was a great guy."

INSIDE EDITION's Megan Alexander asked Abravanel, "Why did that bother him so much?"

"It was a parody and I guess he just took it very personally. It was a compliment in a way, but he didn't take it that way. He was very sensitive to it and he felt mocked," said Abravanel.

Dr. Brandt's celebrity clients included Kelly Ripa, Joy Behar, actress Mariel Hemingway, supermodel Stephanie Seymour and Madonna.

He appeared several times on The View and Barbara Walters said she used his line of skin care products.

Dr. Brandt's spokesperson said, "The show definitely deeply hurt him....but it was not the reason he would take his own life."

The show has been heralded as Tina Fey's return to television on Netflix following the success of 30 Rock. Now, her new comedy may have led to tragedy.
