Playing 'God Bless the USA' Writer Lee Greenwood: 'I Would Sing It Every Day If I Could'

It's a song you, too, are bound to hear it at some point during the 4th of July weekend – Lee Greenwood’s “God Bless the USA.”

INSIDE EDITION’s Megan Alexander asked him: “Do you ever get tired of performing it?”

He said emotionally said: "Absolutely not. I know how much it means. I would sing it everyday if I could." 

And as proof he doesn’t get tired of performing it, Greenwood hit a few notes of it with tourists in Times Square.

Greenwood wrote the song in 1983 on a tour bus and it's become an anthem of sorts. He performed after the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and during wartime.

He's now written a children's book based on the song and said, "I hope young people will be inspired by it."
