Injuries Reported After Plane Catches Fire On Florida Runway

The pilot of a Boeing 767 that was taxiing for departure from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport reported fuel was leaking from the aircraft.

A commercial airplane caught fire while preparing to take off from a Florida airport Thursday, injuring several who were onboard, officials said.

"Dynamic Air (Flight) 405 experienced an engine fire while taxing to the runway. The fire was quickly extinguished. Passengers were evacuated," the airport's official Twitter account wrote.

Several people onboard were injured during the incident, a spokesman with the Broward Sheriff's Office tweeted.

Emergency vehicles including fire trucks and an ambulance responded to the tarmac, where dark smoke could be seen coming from the aircraft, witnesses wrote on social media as they posted photos from the scene.

Witnesses reported that the fire was out before 2 p.m.

Passengers evacuated via slides onto the taxiway, CNN reported.

Dynamic is a Worldwide Air Carrier headquartered in Greensboro, North Carolina. The airline issued a statement on the incident, saying: "While taxiing for an on time departure from Fort Lauderdale to Caracas, Dynamic International Airways Crew became aware of an engine problem. The crew followed the emergency procedures, shut down the engine and evacuated the aircraft in order to assure safety to all on board. 

"The Company is conducting initial investigation and will issue further information once available. Safety of our passengers and crew members is the first priority of Dynamic International Airways. Dynamic International Airways is currently arranging accommodation and transportation for all passengers impacted by today’s flight disruption.

"Airline expects to continue operation as per the schedule starting tomorrow October 30th 2015. Dynamic International Airways would like to thank its passengers for their patience and support while our teams conduct their duties."

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport closed due to the incident. It was not clear when it would reopen.
