Brave Elderly Couple Holds Burglar at Gunpoint After He Tries Robbing Them

An alleged burglar in New Mexico got more than he bargained for when police say he targeted an elderly couple and wound up held at gunpoint by his intended victims.

Police in Albuquerque responded to reports of an apparent robbery in progress on Thursday morning. Video of the incident shows them arriving to find a man pinned against a car with his hands up.

Behind him stood a 70-year-old man and his 66-yeaar-old wife, both of them had guns leveled at the suspect.

"The investigation revealed that the elderly male victim went into his garage and noticed [the suspect] loading several items into an SUV parked across the street," police said in a statement obtained by INSIDE EDITION. "The victim recognized several of the items as his belongings and so he confronted [the suspect] and told him to leave."

When the suspect refused, the man reportedly armed himself.

“The old man goes inside his house arms himself with a shotgun, tells his wife what is happening and she arms herself with a handgun,” said Albuquerque Police Officer Tanner Tixier told KRQE.

The suspect was identified by Albuquerque police as Aaron Lujan. According to a police statement, Lujan admitted during his arrest to having been released from jail just that morning and was still wearing his jail ID bracelet.

On Friday, Lujan was released on his own recognizance after posting no bond. No attorney was listed in court records.

The very next day, Lujan was picked up once again after allegedly robbing an elderly woman.

Along with an alleged accomplice, police say Lujan was set to meet a woman at a Target parking lot after he'd allegedly robbed her just hours before.

"[The victim] stated he had taken her keys during the morning robbery and attempted to take her vehicle," the police statement said.

"A male had contacted her later in the day telling her to meet him at the Target parking lot to obtain her keys from him. Due to her being in fear for her life and in fear of what he may want from her, she called for police assistance prior to meeting the male," the statement continued.

Police arrived and, after a brief chase, police say they discovered Lujan in a tree on a golf course.

Lujan was charged with robbery, receiving/transferring a stolen vehicle, aggravated fleeing from a peace officer and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
