'The Wiz Live!' Draws 11 Million Viewers -- But Where Was Toto?

The live musical gave NBC its best Thursday rating in two years.

The Wiz was a hit for NBC as 11.1 million viewers tuned in to the live broadcast giving the network its best Thursday rating in two years.

But there's a lingering question for those who watched the special-- what happened to Toto? The famous dog made a brief appearance in Kansas but didn't follow Dorothy to Oz.

The Twitter-verse exploded with comments like “Wait. Where's Toto? They just left him in Kansas?”

Another wrote: “Missing: little black terrier that answers by the name of #toto.”

The show became a trending Twitter topic with many tweets like:

Not to worry. Toto made it back safely into the arms of Dorothy in the final scene.

The Wiz first hit Broadway in 1975 and went on to win seven TONY awards. Three years later, it was made into a film, starring Diana Ross as Dorothy and Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow.
